A TRUSTED AFTERCARE PARTNER FOR VETERINARY PRACTICES

Veterinary Partnership Programme

Supporting pet owners after loss, while protecting veterinary teams

Every veterinary professional knows that helping a pet pass peacefully is only part of the story.

What happens after clients leave the practice, or when the home euthanasia vet leaves, often determines how supported or abandoned they feel.

For many pet owners, the most difficult part begins after the goodbye, when they’re at home without their companion, overwhelmed by grief, guilt, and loneliness.

We know veterinary teams care deeply about their clients, but providing ongoing emotional support after loss requires time, training, and emotional capacity that most practices simply don’t have. Nor should they be expected to.

Who We Are

The Pet Loss Support Group (PLSG) is a UK-based Community Interest Company (CIC) providing emotional aftercare for pet owners following loss.

Founded in 2023 after the loss of my own beloved dog, Tilly, the PLSG is now an established nationwide service trusted by veterinary practices to support clients beyond the euthanasia appointment.

What We Provide

Free facilitated online group sessions offering emotional support.

Access to a supportive community of pet owners who understand this type of disenfranchised grief.

Curated resources and signposting to appropriate external support where required.

How This Support Is Different

Some practices refer clients to national pet loss support services offering helplines, email, or one-to-one listening support. The PLSG complements these services by providing structured, facilitated online group support sessions and an ongoing peer community.

This gives grieving pet owners a regular, safe space to process their grief with others who understand. Over time, this helps reduce isolation, process grief, and build resilience in a way one-off contact can’t always achieve.

Sessions are intentionally kept small to ensure everyone has time to share, process grief, and feel understood.

Our Impact So Far

- Over 100 bereaved pet owners supported through facilitated online group sessions and peer connection.

- Over 60% return for additional support when needed, showing both trust and ongoing demand.

- 100% of participants report that the group provides a safe space to express their grief.

“Before I joined the group, I was hopelessly lost and in despair. I couldn’t have made it through these past few weeks without all the caring people in the group! I've never found a more welcoming atmosphere.”

Helping Pet Owners Access Support Easily

To help clients find support when they’re ready, we kindly request practices include a link to the Pet Loss Support Group on their website or aftercare pages. This ensures support remains easily accessible beyond the appointment, without adding responsibility to clinical teams.

Partnership Contributions

Partnership contributions help sustain the Pet Loss Support Group’s services for bereaved pet owners.

Practices partner with us at different contribution levels depending on how they wish to support the service. Our partnerships are designed to be simple, ethical and low-burden for veterinary teams, ensuring clients always have access to appropriate emotional support after loss.

Supporting Partner

£150 per month or £1,800 annually

Contributes to the ongoing delivery of regular, facilitated group support sessions for bereaved pet owners.

Sustaining Partner

£250 per month or £3,000 annually (Most practices choose this level)

Sustains the delivery of facilitated support sessions and the development of post-session support resources shared with participants.

Impact Partner

£400 per month or £4,800 annually

Plays a significant role in strengthening core services and enabling the development of additional support as demand continues to grow.

What Partner Practices Receive

Support cards and referral materials

Allowing clients to access help easily and directly in their own time, reassuring them that support is available beyond the appointment.

Recognition as a partner practice on our website

Publicly demonstrating your commitment to compassionate and responsible aftercare. Confidence in knowing clients are supported.

For most practices, contributions represents less than the cost of one routine consultation per week and enables year-round aftercare support for clients at one of the most difficult moments in pet ownership.

Partnership contributions may be treated as a business expense. We recommend confirming this with your accountant.

“This partnership has given us confidence that our clients are supported after loss, without adding pressure to our team.”
