A TRUSTED AFTERCARE PARTNER FOR VETERINARY PRACTICES
Veterinary Partnership Programme
Supporting pet owners after loss, while protecting veterinary teams
Every veterinary professional knows that helping a pet pass peacefully is only part of the story.
What happens after clients leave the practice, or when the home euthanasia vet leaves, often determines how supported or abandoned they feel.
For many pet owners, the most difficult part begins after the goodbye, when they’re at home without their companion, overwhelmed by grief, guilt, and loneliness.
We know veterinary teams care deeply about their clients, but providing ongoing emotional support after loss requires time, training, and emotional capacity that most practices simply don’t have. Nor should they be expected to.
Who we are
The Pet Loss Support Group (PLSG) is a UK-based Community Interest Company (CIC) providing emotional aftercare for pet owners following loss.
Founded in 2023 after the loss of my own beloved dog, Tilly, the PLSG is now an established nationwide service trusted by veterinary practices to support clients beyond the euthanasia appointment.
Today, we provide:
Weekly facilitated online group support sessions
In-person meetups
A private, moderated WhatsApp community providing invaluable 24/7 support and connection between sessions
Curated resources and signposting to appropriate external support where required
All support is delivered within clear boundaries, with safeguarding and moderation in place to ensure a safe, confidential environment.

How this support is different
Some practices refer clients to national pet loss support services offering helplines, email, or one-to-one listening support. The PLSG complements these services by providing structured, facilitated online group support sessions and an ongoing peer community.
This gives grieving pet owners a regular, safe space to process their grief with others who understand, both during and between sessions. Over time, this helps reduce isolation, normalise grief, and build resilience in a way one-off contact can’t always achieve.
Sessions are intentionally kept small to ensure everyone has time to share, process grief, and feel understood.
Our impact so far
Over 100 bereaved pet owners supported through facilitated online group sessions and peer connection.
Over 60% return for additional support when needed, showing both trust and ongoing demand.
100% of participants report the group provides a safe space to express their grief.
One participant shared, “The Pet Loss Support Group has been the single most important thing I’ve done that has helped me deal with my grief. It's brilliant and has been a lifesaver for me.”

How it works in practice
1. Following euthanasia or end-of-life discussions, pet owners are offered our support cards or directed to our website.
2. Pet owners self-refer and access support in their own time. We manage all ongoing support with compassion and professionalism.
There’s no admin burden, no ongoing obligation for your team, and no risk to your practice.
Helping pet owners access support easily
To help clients find support when they’re ready, we kindly request practices include a link to the Pet Loss Support Group on their website or aftercare pages. This ensures support remains easily accessible beyond the appointment, without adding responsibility to clinical teams.

In return, partner practices receive:
Support cards and referral materials that allow clients to access help easily and directly in their own time, reassuring them that support is available beyond the appointment

For most practices, this represents a modest monthly cost and enables year-round aftercare support for clients at one of the most difficult moments in pet ownership.
