A TRUSTED AFTERCARE PARTNER FOR VETERINARY PRACTICES
Supporting Pet Owners After Loss
Every veterinary professional knows that helping a pet pass peacefully is only part of the story.
What happens after clients leave your practice often determines how supported or abandoned they feel.
For many pet owners, the most difficult part begins after the goodbye, when they’re at home without their companion, overwhelmed by grief, guilt, and loneliness.
While veterinary teams care deeply about their clients, providing ongoing emotional support after loss requires time, training, and emotional capacity that most practices simply don’t have. Nor should they be expected to.
Who we are
The Pet Loss Support Group (PLSG) is a UK-based Community Interest Company (CIC) providing structured, non-clinical emotional support to pet owners after pet loss.
Founded in 2023 following the loss of my own beloved dog, Tilly, the Pet Loss Support Group has grown into an established nationwide service trusted by veterinary practices to support clients beyond the euthanasia appointment.
Today, we provide:
- Weekly facilitated online support sessions
- Monthly in-person meet-ups
- A private, moderated WhatsApp support community
- Curated resources and signposting to appropriate external support where required
All services are delivered within clear boundaries, safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical responsibility at their core.

How this support is different
Some practices refer clients to national pet loss support services offering helplines, email, or one-to-one listening support. The PLSG complements these services by providing structured, facilitated online group support sessions and an ongoing peer community.
This gives grieving pet owners a regular, safe space to process their grief alongside others who understand, outside of the group sessions. This helps to reduce isolation, normalise grief, and build resilience over time in a way one-off contact can’t always achieve.
Our impact so far
70+ bereaved pet owners supported through facilitated sessions and peer connection.
Over 60% return for additional support when needed, reflecting healthy grief processing and accessing support at difficult moments and stepping back when it isn’t.
How it works in practice
Following euthanasia or end-of-life discussions, you offer pet owners our support card or direct them to our website.
Pet owners self-refer and access support in their own time.
We manage all ongoing support with care and professionalism.
There’s no admin burden, no ongoing obligation for your team, and no risk to your practice. All support is delivered within clear boundaries and with moderation to ensure a safe environment for participants.
Partnership Contribution
We offer one simple partnership option of £299 for veterinary practices.
This annual contribution is reviewed each year, and carries no long-term obligation.
Your partnership helps us to:
Deliver weekly facilitated group support sessions
Maintain safeguarding, moderation, and clear professional boundaries
Keep all support free and accessible at the point of need
Provide referral materials for your practice
In return, your practice receives:
Support cards and referral materials for clients
Recognition as a partner practice on our website
Impact updates showing how your contribution supports grieving pet owners
For most practices, this represents less than the cost of one routine consultation per month and provides year-round aftercare support for clients when they need it most.
“This partnership has given us confidence that our clients are supported after loss, without adding pressure to our team.”
